AGENTS of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) announced on Wednesday the arrest and deportation of a high-ranking Mongolian official who is wanted in his home country for corruption offenses.

Immigration Intelligence Chief Fortunato Manahan, Jr. said the fugitive, 67, was arrested last April 4 in coordination with Mongolian Police.

“We were initially informed by Mongolian authorities that [the suspect] will be in Cebu City,” Manahan shared.

BI agents then arrested the Mongolian following the mission order issued by Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco.

The alien was reportedly charged with deportation for undesirability as he is a fugitive from justice and, thus, poses a clear and present danger, risk to public interest and safety, and threat to national security, according to the BI.

“The Mongolian government has also canceled his passport, rendering him undocumented,” added Manahan.

Manahan then shared that to avoid further delay and inconvenience, the fugitive was deported that same night via a Korean Airlines flight from Mactan, Cebu, upon the request of Mongolian authorities.

Tansingco commended the BI agents and said, “This is yet again a major arrest for our agents… Rest assured that we will continue to hunt down these criminals and continue to strengthen our partnership with foreign counterparts to maintain public safety and security.” BY JUN I.
