AROUND P100 million worth of cannabis plants, seedlings and ready-for-sale bricks have been uprooted and destroyed in Tinglayan, Kalinga but not a single suspect was arrested, Philippine National Police Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG) director, Brigadier General Dionisio B. Bartolome Jr. said on Sunday.

However, no arrests were made during the string of operations as the sites were found to be uninhabited, said Bartolome.

In a report to PNP chief, General Rommel Francisco D. Marbil, the uprooted illegal plants were in Brgy. Loccong, Tinglayan.

Uprooted and burned on site last Friday and Saturday were an estimated 225 kilograms of dried marijuana leaves and over 120,000 pieces of fully-grown cannabis plants and seedlings valued at nearly P52 million.

Continuing operations in the area led to the burning of another 45,000 shrubs of marijuana plants worth P9 million and another 138,000 pieces of the prohibited plants valued at P27.5 million.

Also burned in the site were more than 145,000 pieces of cannabis plants worth at least P29 million.

The prohibited crops grow abundantly in the area due to its cool weather suitable for marijuana cultivation.
