A 95-YEAR-OLD bedridden grandmother and her 26-year-old grandson died after they were trapped in their burning stall inside a public market midnight Sunday in Caloocan City.

Pacita Demagos was alone inside their stall in a public market in Camarin, Bgy. 175 when the fire of still unknown origin broke out at around 12 midnight.

The fire almost gutted the stall when Demagos grandson, Edwin Mendoza, arrived and tried to rescue his grandmother.

However, Mendoza suffocated due to the thick smoke from burning linoleum flooring materials which they sold. The bodies of the victims were retrieved later by firefighters from the rubble of the stall.

Caloocan City Bureau of Fire Protection said the fire reached the second alarm before it was declared fire out past 1 a.m.

Arson investigators are still conducting a follow-up investigation to determine the cause of the fire and the amount of property damaged.
