KamponKampon1Kampon2BEAUTY Gonzalez says her new movie, “Kampon”, is her fifth horror flick after “Feng Shui 2”, “Abandoned”, “Hellcome Home” and “In My Mother’s Skin” which was shown on Prime Video. But she doesn’t want to be called the new Horror Queen now that Kris Aquino, who used to do a lot of horror flicks, is now retired.

“I don’t think I’m deserving,” she says. “Ni wala pa nga akong award or anything. But I’m glad I did ‘Kampon’ as I think it’s the scariest horror movie I’ve ever done. Viewers should be prepared as it’s really scary at maraming jump scares.”

How does it feel that “Kampon” is said to have been first offered to Kris?

“I don’t mind. I take it as a challenge kasi she’s the one who is considered as the Horror Queen. It’s a good role and it gives me the chance to work with Derek Ramsay who has won best actor awards. Also, I really want to work with Atty. Joji Alonso and her Quantum Films kasi they make good quality films and Derek won his best actor awards for films he did with them. The important thing is I got the role, I gave it all my best and I enjoyed portraying it.”

How did she react when she learned she’d do a love scene with Derek? “At first I thought, asawa nga pala siya ng best friend ko. But my husband, na siyang unang naging friend ni Ellen (Adarna) before me, he just laughed it off. Alam niya work lang, so pareho sila ni Ellen, they just laughed about it. Derek is a gentleman at mabilis naming natapos ang scene.”

Beauty is happy that “Kampon” made as an official entry in the Metro filmfest but she knows they’ll be facing a lot of competition.

“I know it will be a tough contest at the box office,” she says. “Kasi there are ten entries competing for the viewer’s attention at puro magaganda ang mga pelikulang kalahok ngayon. I’m just lucky na I have a movie na kasama rito. Excited ako to join the parade of stars to promote our movie. But my wish is sana, for this Christmas, babaan naman nila ticket prices sa sinehan. Pasko naman, e. Para mas maraming mga taong makapanood ng entries sa theaters mismo where movies are best seen.”

Beauty was bashed by some folks when she wore antique jewelry that are centuries old and worth P10 million at the GMA Gala Night. They said the pieces she wore are used in funeral services in olden times and the dead owners might haunt her. What can she say about this?

“I don’t believe in such things,” she says. “I really didn’t respond to their statements kasi hahaba lang and it would be an unending exchange of words. All I can say is I respect their opinion, what they believe in, but the pieces I wore are ones that I’ve collected through the years. My intention when I wore them is to showcase something local, galing sa Pilipinas from thousands of year ago, kasi I know everybody else would Westernized jewelry that night. I’m sorry if others didn’t appreciate it. Abangan na lang nila kasi there’s more of it, so they should watch out for more.”
