THE camp of Partido Federal ng Pilipinas standard-bearer Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. yesterday expressed respect for the PDP-Laban’s unilateral adoption of Marcos’ running-mate Davao Mayor Sara Duterte as the ruling party’s vice presidential bet for the May 9 synchronized elections.

In a statement, lawyer Vic Rodriguez, Marcos’ chief of staff and spokesman, said the announcement of PDP-Laban’s Cusi faction is but an expression of freedom of choice.

“PDP-Laban (Cusi faction) announcement adopting vice-presidential aspirant Mayor Sara Duterte is but an expression of its freedom of choice…As far as the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas, the party of presidential aspirant Bongbong Marcos, and the UniTeam are concerned, such ‘adoption,’ though a UNILATERAL move by the PDP-Laban (Cusi faction) deserves our utmost respect,” he said.

Rodriguez further said that Sara’s political parties, Lakas-CMD and Hugpong ng Pagbabago, informed them that that there was no signing of an accord between them and PDP-Laban, nor a semblance of any formality to forge an agreement for the mayor’s “adoption.”

He added the two parties also assured that they remain strongly committed to its alliance with the PFP Presidential bet.

The PDP-Laban faction led by Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi has adopted Davao City mayor Sara Duterte as its vice presidential bet for the 2022 elections, adding that she will ensure continuity of her father, President Duterte’s programs.

“The party is committed to support her candidacy in the coming elections,” the party said, but did not commit support to any presidential candidate.

“We have not made any decision about it. We are having evaluation as to who among the candidates would best continue the programs the administration has started,” Cusi said.
