Batang Pier stay alive

NORTHPORT is winless no more.

Led by the 1-2 punch of Kevin Murphy and Robert Bolick, the Batang Pier defeated Terrafirma Dyip, 115-100, to end their six-game losing streak in the PBA Governors’ Cup at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.

Murphy finished with a game-high 28 points on 10-of-25 shooting on top of nine rebounds in 39 minutes, while Bolick added 26 points, nine rebounds and six assists to give coach Bonnie Tan his first taste of victory since taking over from coach Pido Jarencio.

JM Calma added 18 points and nine rebounds and former Terrafirma star Joshua Munzon chipped in 17 points in NorthPort’s first victory.

“If you evaluate the game, lalo na sa endgame, nag-step up ‘yung mga experienced players namin, like captain ball Jeff Chan and our main point guard, Robert Bolick. Sila yung talagang nag-close out ng game para sa amin,” said Tan.

“Everyone played well, including Roi (Sumang) and Calma, mga role players na,in na nag-step up,” added Tan.

Jordan Williams led the losing effort for Terrafirma with 25 points on 6-of-20 shooting and six rebounds in 46 minutes of action for coach Johnedel Cardel.

Juami Tiongson added 18 points, four assists and three rebounds and Eric Camson and JP Calvo had 12 points

In the second game, Magnolia made it four wins in a row by downing Rain or Shine, 112-97.

Paul Lee, Jio Jalalon and Mark Barroca scored 19 points apiece, whole import Antonio Hester added 17 points and 15 rebounds as the Hotshots improved to 4-3.

Greg smith had 15 points for Rain or Shine, who dropped to 2-5.
