KJ powers Meralco over NLEX

NBA veteran KJ McDaniels rediscovered his old, deadly form as Meralco blasted NLEX, 114-98, to snap a PBA Governors’ Cup at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.

McDaniels finished with 31 points and 21 rebounds to power the Bolts to their fourth win in seven matches for sixth place overall.

The 6-6 forward from Alabama, who was selected as No. 32 overall pivk by the Philadelphia 76ers during the 2014 NBA Draft, went 11-of-24 from the floor and 9-of-1o from the free throw line in nearly 44 minutes as the Bolts scored 22 straight points in the first half to pull away for good and send the Road Warriors to their fifth loss in eight games.

Allein Maliksi added 19 points, Chris Newsome contributed 18 and Aaron Black had 15 for the Bolts,who led by as many as 21 points.

Wayne Selden carried the fight for NLEX with 29 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.

Don Trollano had 19 points, six rebounds and four assists, Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser had 16 points and Kevin Alas had 14 points for the Road Warriors.

Later, Converge FiberX diwned Blackwater, 98-90.

Meanwhile, Calvin Oftana of TNT was named as the Cignal Play-PBA Press Corps Player of the Week for the period Feb. 15-19.

Oftana rose to the occasion as the Tropang Giga completed a three-game sweep of their schedule and claim solo leadership in the season-ending tournament.

Oftana averaged 14.7 points on 50-percent clip from beyond the arc, including the game-winning putback in TNT’s thrilling escape act against San Miguel, 105-103.
