HEALTH authorities are closely monitoring the condition of a six-month-old baby who was accidentally inoculated with a coronavirus disease-19 vaccine in Sta. Maria, Bulacan.

The infant was accidentally injected with the COVID-19 vaccine at a health center last December 29.

The mother said her child was supposed to be given a pneumococcal vaccine but instead, the midwife accidentally administered the COVID vaccine.

According to the mother, her baby is now suffering from a fever.

“‘Yung future effect po kay baby kasi siyempre, baby pa ‘to. So ‘yung mga internal organs niya baka hindi kaya ‘yung gamot, Pwede ba itong maging cause ng pagiging special child?,” the worried mother asked.

The incident is being investigated by the local government unit and health officials as they are closely monitoring the condition of the infant.

Health Undersecretary Myrna Cabotaje, chairperson of the National Vaccination Operations Center, said COVID-19 vaccines should be separated from other regular vaccines and stored in a different refrigerator to avoid a similar incident.

“We remind our implementers na hiwalay dapat ang paglalagyan at malaki ang label para hindi sila malito,” Cabotaje said.

According to health authorities, only 12-year-olds and older are allowed to receive the COVID vaccine.
