Armed Laguna toughie killed in encounter

A 48-year-old construction worker and toughie in their barangay was killed by responding elements of the Special Weapon and Tactics (SWAT) team and 3rd Platoon, First, Laguna Provincial Mobile Force Company (LPMFC) in an armed encounter Thursday afternoon in Purok 5, Riverside, Bgy. San Jose, San Pablo City, Laguna.

Laguna Provincial Director PCol. Serafin Petalio II said the slain suspect identified as Ramil Marajas Magapi died due to multiple gunshot wounds in his body.

At about 5 p.m., the elements of San Pablo police received an information of a man firing his gun and holding a grenade.

Immediately, the San Pablo police led by PLt. Abracia with the SWAT team, later augmented by the 3rd Platoon, First LPMFC, responded to the house of the suspect.

While the police operatives were approaching the house, he suddenly fired upon the responding police officers who were persuading the suspect to surrender. The latter continued firing his gun.

The police and the suspect’s neighbors’ lives were at risk which prompted the officers to breach the house barricaded by the suspect.

A brief gunfight ensued which resulted in the instantaneous death of the suspect.

Recovered at the crime scene were one caliber 45, one fragmentation grenade, one caliber 22 and scattered fired cartridges case of unknown caliber.

Initial inquiry with the residents and the barangay officials revealed that the suspect was “siga siga” in the area.

“May isang residente doon ang umalis sa takot na ito ay barilin,” said the investigator.
