THE national goverrnment hopes to fully vaccinate 90 percent of the country’s 110 million population before outgoing President Rodrigo Duterte leaves Malacanang next year.

Under the Constitution, which was drafted during the incumbency of the late President Corazon Aquino, Duterte’s six-year presidency ends at 12 noon on June 30, 2022.

In the view of many, including the health department, the authorities are in a position to inoculate 99 million Filipinos, with the intensification of the vaccination program.

No less than Health Secretary Francisco “Pingkoy” Duque III is optimistic that the government would reach its goal of fully inoculating 54 million Pinoys by the end of 2021.

Records show that government authorities have so far fully vaccinated 39.7 million Filipinos against COVID-19, while 56.64 million have received at least one dose.

In a bid to meet its goal of inoculating 90 percent of the population before June 30, 2022, the government holds another mass vaccination drive nationwide next week.

The health secretary from vote-rich Pangasinan called on the people, including the elderly, to troop to vaccination centers across the country from December 15 to 17.

Duque said vaccines would help prevent “severe to critical COVID-19 infection, hospitalization and death,” pointing out the virus’ sheer potential for mutations.

For the sake of our countrymen, notably the elderly and people with various ailments, let’s support the government’s vaccination program against the coronavirus disease.

Ito ay kung gusto nating makabalik na tayo sa dati nating pamumuhay.
