THE Philippine National Police (PNP) Foodbank on Tuesday received seven metric tons of ‘kalabasa’ or squash bought by the PNP Officer’s Ladies Club from farmers in Nueva Ecija for distribution to poor Pinoys affected by the pandemic.

Headed by the wife of PNP chief, General Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar, Mrs. Rosalie Hernandez Eleazar, the ‘kalabasas’ will be distributed to the Police-Community Affairs and Development Group and the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) and its five districts.

An initial one-ton of squash was turned over by the group of Mrs. Eleazar to PNP Logistics Support Service director, Brigadier Gen. Mario A. Reyes during simple rites in Camp Crame.

Eleazar said.

Gen. Eleazar said that their BARANGAYanihan program continues to gain support from different civic and non-government organizations which are all willing to donate basic goods, rice, vegetables and alcohol, face masks and face shields for use to families badly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The PNP-OLC partnered with the Soroptomist International and Ako ang Saklay, Inc. in purchasing the squash and donating them to the PNP Foodbank.

The PNP BARANGAYanihan program was launched last May 14 in support to Gen. Eleazar’s ICP project to provide additional assistance by unifying all existing community support services for the welfare of the people especially in the barangay level, said PCADG director, Brig. Gen. Eric E. Noble.
