JUSTICE Secretary Menardo Guevarra on Thursday night confirmed that NBN-ZTE deal whistleblower Rodolfo “Jun” Lozada Jr. and his brother have surrendered to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) following a recent ruling by the Supreme Court upholding their 2016 conviction for graft.

In a message, Guevarra said Lozada will be transferred to the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa soon.

After the SC handed down its decision, the Sandiganbayan 4th Division issued a warrant of arrest against Lozada and his brother Jose Orlando.

“I confirm that (Lozada surrendered). But eventually he will be transferred to the national penitentiary to serve his sentence,” Guevarra said.

When asked for the date of his transfer to Bilibid, Guevarra said :” It depends on the order of commitment issued by the court. Unfortunately, I have no copy of such order. ”

Their conviction was affirmed after the high court rejected their appeal to reverse the Sandiganbayan’s decision sentencing them to a maximum prison term of 10 years for graft.

Graft probers accused Lozada of giving unwarranted benefits to his brother for awarding over 6.599 hectares of public land when he was still the chief executive officer of the Philippine Forest Corp.
