STA. CRUZ, Ilocos Sur – Five victims of the “Sangla-Paluwagan” investment scam sought police assistance Tuesday after they were allegedly duped with P294,000 in cash.

The victims complained to the police that they were “scammed” by a woman, an online seller, 25, and a resident of Barangay Sevilla, Sta. Cruz.

The police reported that the victims personally appeared at Sta. Cruz PS (Police Station) as walk-in complainants of the said investment scam.

Based on their statements, police gathered that the suspect posted promotions of the “Sangla-Paluwagan” investment scheme on her Facebook (FB) account under the name “Sahara Lei Lacanaria.”

Last November and December 2022, the victims asked about the said investment scheme thru the FB Messenger account of the suspect.

Owing to “sweet promises,” the victims were attracted to the promise of bigger returns on their investment.

The suspect received P38,000; P33,000; P108,000; P66,000; and P49,000 from each victims respectively.

To get their trust, the suspect executed a “written agreement” with some of the victims, enticing them to invest the total amount of P294,000.

Police said the victims failed to get their “investment” money despite repeated demands from the suspect.
