PHILIPPINE National Police chief General Benjamin C. Acorda Jr. on Monday said they have recorded a continuing decrease in all major crimes in the country as they further intensify their war on drugs and other forms of criminality.

“The third week of May showcased the continuing decline in peace and order indicators, particularly index crime which dropped by 9.71 percent from 16,652 to 15,035 in 2023 from the period of January 1 to May 27, 2023 comparing to the same period last year,” he said.

From January 1 to last May 27, Gen. Acorda said that the following crimes decreased as compared to the same period last year:

Focus Crimes which include murder, homicide, physical injury, robbery, theft, rape, and carnapping of motor vehicles and motorcycles decreased by 9.76 percent from 16,566 to 14,949 cases.

Notably, incidents of carnapping of motor vehicles recorded the highest decrease of 26.62 percent, from 139 to 102 cases, he said.

Gen. Acorda said that during the period, police nationwide also accounted for 29,,383 wanted persons while 176 surrendered to PNP authorities after feeling the heat of continuing manhunt operations against them.

He added that in the campaign against illegal drugs, PNP agents during the period conducted 18,317 anti-drug operations which resulted in the confiscation of illegal drugs estimated to be worth P6.05-billion, and the arrest of 24,197 drug offenders.

“With this, I would like to congratulate the National Capital Region Police Office, headed by their Regional Director Police Major Gen. Edgar Alan Okubo for their accomplishment over the weekend, for arresting two high-value individuals in a drug buy-bust operation that resulted in the confiscation of approximately 3,800 grams of Shabu with an estimated Standard Drug Price of Php25,840,000.00 in Caloocan City,” the top cop said.

Nearly P49 million worth of shabu were seized by NCRPO agents in separate anti-narcotics operations in Metro Manila on Saturday, Maj. Gen. Okubo said.

The official said that those operations also led in the arrest of three top drug targets in the metropolis.
