5 ex-rebels yield in Nueva Ecija

GUIMBA, Nueva Ecija – The Nueva Ecija police’s campaign against local terrorism received a big boost following the voluntary surrender of five former members of the New People’s Army (NPA) to authorities in this town, in Aliaga and Gabaldon.

Guimba police head Lt. Col. Ranny G. Casilla identified the surrenderer in the town as alias “Ka Noli,” 53, a farmer, of Bgy. Manggang Marikit.

“Ka Noli” was a former member of the NPA’s Bagong Hukbong Bayan under the command of Freddie Daileg from 1998 to 2004.

“Ka Noli” turned over to Casilla on Friday a shotgun without serial number.

In Aliaga, the First Provincial Mobile Force Company led by Lt. Col. Cornelio Ordanza conducted a similar special intelligence operation that led to the voluntary surrender of alias “Ka Lucy,” 65, of Bgy. Eustacio.

She was a former member of an Underground Mass Organization (UGMO) under Pambansang Katipunan ng mga Magsasaka (PKM) and Alyansang Magbubukid sa Gitnang Luzon (AMGL).

“Ka Lucy” was formerly recruited by its leaders she identified as “Ka Glen, Ka Sabel, and Ka Aljo” in 1998.

She surrendered a Smith and Wesson cal .38 revolver loaded with three bullets to Ordanza at the 1ST PMFC camp in Cabanatuan City.

A parallel operation was also conducted in Bgy. Ligaya, Gabaldon at 2:20 p.m. where three former rebels withdrew their support to the insurgents and pledged their allegiance to the government.

Ordanza identified the surrenderers as alias “Mark,” 54; alias “Oliver,” 56, and another 46-year-old ex-rebel, all former members of the Alyansa ng Mamamayang Nagkakaisa (ALMANA) who were recruited by the group’s leaders Arnie Gallardo and Tom Guevarra back in 2015.

Following the ex-rebels’ formal withdrawal of support, food packs were distributed to them during the activity.

Nueva Ecija top cop Col. Richard V. Caballero said alias “Ka Noli” could get cash incentives and livelihood assistance under the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integrated Program (E-CLIP).
