CAMP VICENTE LIM, Canlubang, Calamba, Laguna – Four persons were injured when the 12-wheeler dump truck loaded with sand they were riding fell into a river when a metal bridge connecting two villages in Majayjay, Laguna collapsed yesterday.

In a report submitted to Police Regional Office 4A Director Brig. Gen. Eliseo DC Cruz by Majayjay police chief Capt. Ruffy Taduyo , those injured were identified as dump truck driver Jieron Benlot, 34, of Purok Cabalantian, Bacolor, Pampanga; and passengers Noel Clemente, 44, of San Nicolas, San Fernando, Pampanga; Den Fernandez, 42, of Bgy. Sampalucan, Pagsanjan, Laguna; and Jeffry Pinino, 29, of San Fernando, Pampanga.

The four were rushed to Mahayhay Medicare Hospital for treatment of head and body injuries.
Cpl. Rhoel Wansi said the truck owned by Pocholo Hizon Construction of Bacolor, Pampanga was traversing the Atilo Bridge in Bgy. San Isidro on way to Majayjay town proper when the bridge suddenly collapsed at 10 a.m. yesterday.

The bridge connects Bgy. San Isidro to Bgy. Suba.

Wansi said the dump truck was on its way to deliver the sand to a project in Laguna from a quarry site when it met the accident.

Personnel of the Majayjay Police Station immediately responded and conducted rescue operation, with the help of villagers.

Barangay officials advised motorists to use for the meantime the highway in Liliw town.
