AT least 221 agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) in Silay City, Negros Occidental are now landowners after the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) awarded them their certificates of land ownership award (CLOA).

DAR Secretary Conrado Estrella lll said that the activity is in response to the commitment of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. (PBBM) to provide agricultural lands to “landless farmers.”

The properties that were awarded were previously owned by Pacita Gayoso et al., Celina Garcia, Letecia G. Parreño, and Florentina Gaston, identified by Title Numbers T-9798, 9800, T-9416, 8142, and T-4689 bearing Lot Nos. 853, 672-B, 665- B-2, 755-A-2, and 665-A-1, respectively.

The landholding has a total area of 150.5047 hectares situated at Barangay Hawaiian, Hda Dacudao, Hda. Cabungahan, and Hda. Cabungahan, Bgy. E. Lopez, Silay City.

Clytemnestra Refugio, Municipal Agrarian Reform Program Officer, on the other hand, said that the ARBs are now recognized owners of the agricultural lands because of the land titles.

“Congratulations to all of you. May this land improve the quality of your life, and let us work hand in hand to improve your landholdings for it to produce a good harvest,” she said.

Refugio added that the DAR is mandated to acquire public and private agricultural landholdings to be distributed to tenants, farmers, farmworkers, and other tillers who are qualified to become ARBs. Proof of ownership is provided in CLOAs covering one (1) contiguous tract or several parcels of land cumulated up to a maximum of three (3) hectares per ARB.

She said that the DAR would continue to assist them by providing them with the required support service.
