12 held in Ecija illegal gambling raids

CABANATUAN CITY — At least 12 suspected illegal gamblers were nabbed in anti-illegal gambling operations in three different towns in Nueva Ecija resulting in the seizure of cash bets amounting to P1,945, it was learned on Thursday.

In Zaragosa, police led by town head Major Jaime P. Ferrer raided an illegal gambling joint in Purok 1, Bgy. Macarse at 4:30 p.m. and nabbed six suspects who were caught playing “tong-its.”

Arrested were Levilita Ignacio, 55, Rosemarie Santiano, 26, Marina Salazar, 36, Mylene Rebicoy, 25, Catherine Santiano, 24, and Virginia Santiano, 27, all of Purok 1, Bgy Macarse.

Recovered during the operation were cash bets amounting to P1,500 and two sets of playing cards.

In San Leonardo, police chief Major Lawrence Dr. Lira, said his men arrested a suspected illegal STL bookie joint operator identified as Gino Roque, 33, of Bgy. Tambo-Adorable, who was caught collecting bets in Bgy. Tabuating at 4:30 p.m.

Seized from him were P200 in bet money and two bundles of papelitos or betting papers.

In Talavera, police swooped down on an illegal gambling joint in Bgy. Sibul at 5:15 p.m. and nabbed five suspects engaged in the now-banned bingo game.

Lt. Col. Heryl L. Bruno, town police chief, identified those nabbed as Mylen Dela Cruz, 40, Lucy Baldovino, 40, Christine Ignacio, 39, Cindy Ignacio, 21, and Cherry Ignacio, 18, all of Bgy. Sibul.

Seized were cash bets totaling P245 and bingo games paraphernalia.
