THE Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines (JGFP), now headed by former jungolf champion Oliver Gan, is ready to hit the fairways anew following the election of its new set of officers.

Gan, who was elected as president of the golf body only last week, said the new JGFP board is set to launch several top-level tournaments in the coming weeks as it takes over the role of helping discover and promote junior golfers in the country.

“I’m happy to be elected as president, and as head of the board. We’re looking at brighter days ahead,” said Gan, who topped the recent election for the 15-man board of directors at the Orchard in Cavite with 143 votes last month and was voted as president during the parliamentary election last Monday, Oct. 3 in Quezon City

“We’re actually very excited to start implementing the programs of the JGFP,” said Gan, whose team OGan (Outstanding Golfers Achievement Nationwide) took the first eight positions for the 14 elected directors.

“First off the bat is the Inter-School Championship, which is scheduled on Oct. 16 at Eagle Ridge and Riviera Sports,” said Gan, a former golf consultant of the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) under then Chairman Abraham “Baham” Mitra.

The 39-year-old Gan, who is currently Vice President for Sports of Xavier School Alumni Board, replaced Nikki Ng, who failed to keep her position in the JGFP board with only 91 votes.

Other elected board members from Team OGAN are Aurelio Gomez as Executive Vice President, Mariel Macasaet as secretary, AJ Adiviso treasurer, Ely Saludar as Press Relations Officer, Jun Cedo as Executive Director, Lue de Guzman as membership committee head, Baltaire Balanguan as training chief, and Charlie Go of Team PLAY under Ng as Visayas tournament head.

Gan, who also served as program officer of the Philippine Sports Institute (PSI), said it was unfortunate that five other elected JGFP board members opted to resign, including Mandaluyong City Vice Mayor Menchie Abalos, Victor Aliwas, Mark Roasca and Marc Young.

Gerry Handog also decided to step down as chairman.

Gan said the new board approved the resignation of the five elected directors, but they decided to keep the position of chairman vacant in case that Handog will reconsider.
