A sexagenarian woman was killed by an alleged “sudden unintended acceleration,” this time by a Mitsubishi Xpander, driven by a 38-year-old man Thursday before dawn in Caloocan City.

Aurora Elizaga, 63, widow and resident of No. 8 Mabolo Road, Bgy. Potrero, Malabon City, was rushed to Manila Central University hospital where she was declared dead upon arrival due to severe head and body injuries.

Caloocan police chief P/Col. Samuel Mina said the driver of the Mitsubishi Xpander with conduction sticker B8-K 123 identified as Rolando Avecilla of Purok 2 Bgy. San Nicolas, Castillejos, Zambales surrendered to the police after the accident.

Traffic investigator P/Cpl. Joemar Pinagbatan of Station Traffic Accident Investigation Unit said the incident happened at the corner of McArthur Highway and Calle Uno Street at around 2:30 a.m.

The involved vehicle was reportedly parked in the area facing East direction when for still unknown reason suddenly accelerated backward and hit the victim who was selling her merchandize in Calle Uno Street.

Mina said Avecilla was presented for inquest proceedings before the Caloocan City Prosecutor’s Office on charges for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.
