Tolentino underscores value of discipline in sports

SENATOR Francis Tolentino reminded all cadets-athletes the value of discipline as he led the opening rites yesterday of the 2023 ROTC Games National Capital Region (NCR) Leg at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium inside RMSC complex in Manila.

Tolentino led officials from the Department of National Defense and top officers from the three services of the Armed Forces of the Philippines in elaborate ceremonies.

Also in attendance was commissioner Walter Torres of the Philippine Sports Commission, Commission on Higher Education (CHED) chairman Prospero De Vera III, Vice Mayor John Marvin Cruz Nieto of Manila, Pasay Mayor Imelda Calixto-Rubiano and DND Undersecretary Ireneo Espino.

“Your have to thrive through discipline because this is the way to success in your respective endeavor,” said Tolentino, the brainchild of the event.

More than 2,000 cadets-athletes from Metro Manila are seeing action in seven sports disciplines including athletics, arnis, kickboxing, volleyball, basketball, boxing and e-sports.

Exciting actions starts today with at least four gold medals in athletics are at stake in the 200-m run (men and women) as well as 4×100-meter relay (men and women’s) to be held at the Philsports track oval in Pasig City.

All other events will be held inside the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex along Vito Cruz in Malate, Manila.

After the NCR Leg, the last of the four qualifying eliminations that started in Iloilo City followed by Zamboanga City and Indang City in Cavite recently, the national finals will immediately follow in Marikina City on October 22 to 26.
