PORMAL nang idineklara ng Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) ang pagsisimula ng panahon ng tag-ulan o rainy season sa bansa.

Kasunod ito ng presensiya ng dalawang meteorological systems na naghahatid ng mga pag-ulan sa ilang lugar sa Luzon at Visayas nitong nakalipas na ilang araw.

“The presence of frontal system and the occurrence of severe thunderstorms have brought widespread rains during the last five days in areas under Type I climate and other parts of the country, Moreover, southwesterly wind flow was also observed during the past few days,” paliwanag ng state weather bureau sa isang advisory.

“This satisfies the criteria of the start of the rainy season over the western sections of Luzon and Visayas,” anito pa.

Kaugnay nito, nagbabala rin ang PAGASA na ang ulan na may kasamang southwest monsoon ay magsisimula nang makaapekto sa Metro Manila at sa western sections ng bansa.

Anito pa, “However, breaks in rainfall events also known as monsoon breaks, which can last for several days or weeks may still occur.”

Sinabi rin ng PAGASA na ang ongoing La Niña ay inaasahang makakaapekto pa rin sa ilang bahagi ng bansa, na magpapataas sa posibilidad nang pagkakaroon ng above-normal na rainfall conditions sa mga susunod na buwan. By Melnie Ragasa-Jimena
