SAN ANTONIO, Nueva Ecija – Thousands of sympathizers joined the funeral procession of slain town councilor Roberto “Amang” Carpio Sr. as he was laid to his final resting place at a private cemeteryin this town on Tuesday morning.

The funeral cortege brought the remains of Carpio, 61, from their house in Bgy. Luyos to the Dr. Jose Lapuz Salonga Gymnasium inside the municipal hall compound before he was laid to rest at the Salonga Memorial Park in Bgy. Sta. Cruz.

Mayor Arvin C. Salonga, Vice Mayor Julie E. Maxwell, and members of the municipal council joined barangay officials, and department heads in paying tributes and offering prayers and flowers to the slain official during a brief necrological service held in his honor at the air-conditioned gymnasium.

“Maraming salamat po Konsehal Amang Carpio, isa kang tunay na lingkod bayan sa bayan ng San Antonio…mananatili ka sa puso namin, naway makamtam mo ang hustisya,” said those who joined the funeral.

Following Carpio’s interment, Mayor Salonga said Gov. Aurelio M. Umali, head of the Unang Sigaw ng Partido ng Pagbabago where Carpio belonged, would appoint his replacement from a list of names being nominated by the party following prior consultation with the bereaved family.

Earlier, the mayor announced he was giving a P.5-million bounty for any information that would lead to the early resolution of the case and the arrest of Carpio’s killers and mastermind.

Col. Richard V. Caballero, provincial police head, earlier said that “police probers had already gathered information about the murder case and just doing a case build-up but still could not provide further details in order not to preempt the investigation.”
