Security troops capture 3 NPA rebs in Negros Occ.

A COUNTER-TERROR operation in Calatrava, Negros Occidental on Thursday resulted in the capture of three ranking members of the New People’s Army (NPA) who yielded explosives and pistols, Philippine National Police Special Action Force (PNP-SAF) director, Major General Edgar Alan O. Okubo said yesterday.
In a report to PNP chief, General Rodolfo S. Azurin Jr., the official identified the three suspects as Felix Susas Jr. alias ‘Rigor/Budok,’ Cheryl Catalogo alias ‘Celo’ and Jalen Susas alias ‘Cristel/Izumi.’

Felix was described as the secretary of the CPP/NPA’s Negros Northern Front Committee while Catalogo is a member of their education staff. The other Susas was identified as a medical staff and acting finance and education staff member of the same rebel unit, said Maj. Gen. Okubo.

According to the official, the three were arrested by members of the PNP-SAF’s 6th Special Action Battalion, the Army’s 79th Infantry Battalion, the Police Regional Office 6 Regional Mobile Group, the Regional Intelligence Unit 6 and the Calatrava and Toboso Municipal Police Stations in Sitio Pinamactinan in Bgy. Cambayobo, Calatrava municipality last Thursday.

Maj. Gen. Okubo said that recovered from the possession of the trio were two caliber .45 semi-automatic pistols with two magazines containing seven live ammunition, one cal. 9mm pistol with a magazine, 18 9mm bullets and four rifle grenades.

Also confiscated from the suspects were three backpacks containing 11 assorted wallets, assorted medicines, personal belongings and suspected NPA documents said to be having ‘high-intelligence value.’

Felix Susas was found to be the subject of a warrant of arrest for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act of 2013 and is also wanted for a homicide case in Silay City in Negros Occidental, a record check showed, Maj. Gen. Okubo.

The three suspects are facing charges for violation of RA 10591 and RA 9516 or illegal possession of explosives which is a non-bailable offense.

The PNP-SAF has partnered with their counterparts from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the PRO6 headed by Brigadier Gen. Leo M. Francisco in going after wanted rebels in Western Visayas and its nearby regions.
