Scores hurt in Calapan resto blast

POLICE Regional Office 4-B director Brig. Gen. Joel B. Doria yesterday ordered a full-blast investigation into a gas explosion in a Korean restaurant in Calapan City in Oriental Mindoro that injured 15 persons and damaged 12 vehicles parked in the area.

“We would like to assure the public of security and assistance in the ongoing investigation of the Bureau of Fire Protection on the incident at Mr. Won’s Samgyeopsal Korean Restaurant located at XentroMall Calapan in Bgy. Lumangbayan in Calapan City,” the official said.

The 10:20 a.m. incident believed to have been triggered by a gas leak injured four restaurant staff, a delivery boy and 10 other unidentified civilians, and damaged 12 vehicles.

Doria said that in the aftermath of the incident, they have activated their Incident Command Post in coordination with the local BFP, the Mimaropa RECU under their Regional Mobile Force Battalion and the Calapan City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

The official assured the public that utmost efforts are currently being made to ensure the safety and well-being of the general public in the city as well as the victims.

“Our law enforcement personnel are working closely with the BFP to gather all necessary evidence and information to facilitate a thorough investigation. We understand the concerns and anxieties of the community, and we want to emphasize that the situation is being given the highest priority,” he said.

Doria also urged the public to remain calm and cooperate with investigators and other authorities. Any information related to the incident may be relayed to the nearest police station or through their designated hotlines.

The official said they have been closely coordinating with the BFP Mimaropa headed by Fire Chief Superintendent Damian J. Rejano in their ongoing investigation into the incident.

He said that any information regarding the case may also be forwarded to BFP Oriental Mindoro provincial director, Fire Supt. Jude Sumeg-Ang through cellphone no. 09209253466.
