Romualdez: Party to ensure Duterte’s victory

DAVAO City Mayor Sara Duterte on Saturday filed her certificate of candidacy for vice president in the 2022 national elections under the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD).

Through her lawyer, Atty. Reynold Munsayac and Roger Baay, representative of the mayor, the vice presidential aspirant formalized her national bid at 1:54 p.m., Saturday.

Duterte substituted for Lakas-CMD member Lyle Fernando Uy who physically went to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) Saturday after lunch to withdraw his vice presidential bid.

Uy earned his BS Entrepreneurial Management at the University of Asia and Pacific.

He was accompanied by Lakas-CMD executive director Anna Capella Velasco who also withdrew her presidential bid.

MARCOS’ PFP ADDOPTS MAYOR SARA AS ITS VP CANDIDATE

Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) announced that it had adopted Duterte as its vice presidential candidate and endorsed her as the running mate of party standard-bearer Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos, Jr. in the upcoming 2022 elections.

The Executive Committee of the PFP released a Resolution on Saturday following Duterte-Carpio’s filing with the Comelec of her Certificate of Candidacy (CoC) for Vice President under LAKAS-CMD. “RESOLVED that vice presidential candidate MAYOR SARA DUTERTE CARPIO of the LAKAS-CMD is hereby ADOPTED by the PARTIDO FEDERAL NG PILIPINAS as its candidate for vice president, and hereby INDORSES her candidacy as the running mate of the PFP’s official candidate for president of the Philippines SENATOR FERDINAND R. MARCOS, JR. in the May 9, 2022, national elections,” a portion of the resolution read.

The PFP resolution further stated that the party did not issue Certificates of Nomination and Acceptance (CONA) and had no official candidates for vice president and senators for the upcoming polls.

It added that party Chair Marcos was given “full power and authority” to choose his Vice Presidential running mate and senatorial line-up.

Marcos, advocating for a unifying leadership brand, has remained humble amid malicious moves to derail his candidacy for the 2022 polls.

He has also fared well in recent Presidential preference surveys, where he enjoyed an ‘overwhelming’ lead over other candidates. Recent surveys also showed that a Bongbong-Sara tandem would result in a landslide victory for the duo.

ROMUALDEZ SAYS LAKAS-CMD WILL ENSURE MAYOR SARA’S VICTORY

House Majority Leader and Leyte 1st District Rep. Martin G. Romualdez, Lakas-CMD president, said the party will ensure the victory of Duterte in the vice presidential race.

“It’s final. Mayor Sara Duterte is now the official candidate of the Lakas-CMD for Vice President in the 2022 national elections. We are honored that Mayor Sara accepted the challenge to help lead the party at a crucial time when the nation desperately needs a steady leader who can inspire us all to bounce back from the ravages of the pandemic,” Romualdez, a lawyer from the University of the Philippines (UP) and president of the Philippine Constitution Association (Philconsa), said.

“We —his partymates in the Senate, House of Representatives, provincial governments, city governments and municipal governments— are all committed to work double time to ensure Mayor Sara’s victory as the country’s next Vice President,” Romualdez, chairman of the House committee on rules, assured.

Reelectionist Ako Bisaya party-list Rep. Sonny Lagon, an ally of the Lakas-CMD, said his allies will work hard to support Duterte’s vice presidential bid.

“Mayor Sara’s sterling qualities as an exceptional leader make her the most qualified among the vice presidential candidates. Her strong commitment, passion, and desire to help the nation will be a big factor for the nation to recover from the pandemic,” Lagon said.
