CONSISTENT with her continuous calls for unity, Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD) chairperson and vice presidential candidate Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte on Thursday discouraged the use of hate as a response to those who seek to “cancel” the UniTeam.

Instead, Duterte endorsed to her supporters the old Filipino saying, “Kapag binato ka ng bato, batuhin mo ng tinapay.” But not before giving her own twist to it.

In her speech during her meet and greet with the members of Batasan Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association (BATODA) at Batasan Hills in Quezon City Thursday, Duterte touched upon the “cancel culture” phenomenon and how it can affect those who believe in the UniTeam.

“Huwag ho kayong pumayag na kayo ay batuhin ng cancel dahil po sa pangagampanya n’yo para kina Marcos-Duterte,” she said.

“Kapag kayo po at binato ng cancel, batuhin niyo po ng burger. Burger ng UniTeam ni Marcos-Duterte,” the presidential daughter said while mimicking the shape of a burger with her hand.

The UniTeam is composed of Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) standard-bearer, former Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. and Duterte.

Duterte would repeat her anti-hate message later in the day in Payatas where she spent a few minutes talking to residents and graciously taking selfies.

She said those who campaign for the “red and green” of Marcos and Duterte should just throw a “UniTeam burger” at those who seek to cancel them.

“Canceling” in the age of social media means calling out a person with an element of shame that may or may not deserve.

Senatorial candidate Salvador Panelo, who accompanied Duterte in Thursday’s Quezon City sorties, said that only the UniTeam is running on the platform of unity.

Other May 2022 poll aspirants, Panelo said, are more inclined to criticize fellow candidates or dig up dirt about them.
