Rose Van does most daring role

GroupROSE Van Ginkel feels quite lucky since some folks can’t find work in this pandemic but she is doing one movie after another and she is now even being launched to stardom in the naughty sex-comedy “69+1”.

“During the pandemic, I did ‘Gusto Ko Maging Pornstar’, ‘Gluta’, ‘Revirginized’ and now, I play a major role in ‘69+1’, all by Direk Darryl Yap,” she says. “So I’m very thankful to him and to Viva for giving me this big break.”

Rose started doing supporting roles with Viva in 2015 in “Talk Back You’re Dead”. She also did other movies like “Chain Mail” and “Indak”.

“69+1” is her biggest film to date but she admits she had qualms about doing it. “Kasi nga, sexy siya. Mahirap yung movie kasi naiiba ang subject niya about polyamorous relationships. So I asked myself kung kakayanin ko ba, can I give it justice, but I trusted Direk Darryl. Isa pa, nakakahiya naman kung tanggihan ko siya, e sinasabi na niyang ako raw talaga ang bagay doon sa movie.”

She had to psyche herself up well even before the shooting started. “Noong una, nahirapan ako kasi may mga gagawin ako ditong never ko pa nagawa before. Sa story, seven years na kami ni Ate Maui rito so we want to see kung hanggang saan aabot ang relationship namin, kaya kinuha namin si Kuya Janno to test our relationship. First time ko to do a love scene. Tapos ang ka-love scene ko, babae pa. But I’m glad na ang ka-love scene ko is Ate Maui Taylor, kasi ang bait-bait niya at gina-guide niya ako. As lesbian lovers in the story, lagi niya akong kinakausap kasi alam niyang kinakabahan ako.”

How about Janno Gibbs who plays their male lover in the movie? “Si Kuya Janno, mabait din. Naka-work ko na siya before sa isang TV series, so comfortable na ako sa kanya. Comedy rin yung ginawa namin before so parang same-same.”

Does she think viewers can relate with their movie which is about a polyamorous relationship? “I think so naman. Kasi may mga tao ngayon mas gusto ng more excitement sa kanilang relationship at mas adventurous.”

How about her, would she try a polyamorous relationship in real life? “Naku, hindi ko siya gagawin sa totoong buhay, kasi may pagka-conservative pa rin ang views ko. In real lilfe, it won’t work for me kasi may pagka-selosa ako. But I’m glad na, at least, na-experience ko siya rito sa movie.”

What’s her most difficult scene in the movie? “Siguro ‘yung love scene naming tatlo, which is also my favorite part in the movie kaya dapat abangan nyo siya. Noong una, nai-starstruck ako sa kanilang dalawa. Kasi napapanood ko sina Kuya Janno at Ate Maui noon, at hindi ako makapaniwala na nakatrabaho ko na sila ngayon at sa isang naiibang love scene pa.”

Will she allow her family to watch the movie? “Before I accepted naman this project, I consulted my family as I want to hear their side. And they’re okay naman, so I’m proud of it at okay lang ipapanood ko ito sa kanila.”

How does she feel when Janno says that it’s really her launching movie? “I really want to thank Kuya Janno and Ate Maui for helping me with my role. I can’t explain how much they guided me. Ako ‘yung type na madaling ma-stress, but lagi nilang sinasabi, kaya mo ‘yan. Kung anuman ang nagawa ko sa movie, dahil ‘yun sa kanila at hindi ko na ‘yun makakalimutan sa habang buhay, so super thank you sa kanila. Hindi naman nila ako kaanu-ano, but they really supported me. Si Kuya Janno, he’s really protective. Maalaga siya, sabi niya, kapag alinlangan ka sa gagawin mo, sabihin mo agad if you’re not comfortable.”

What can she say that some folks are complaining about the use of the Tagalog word for the sex act which she delivered in the film’s trailer? “Hindi talaga maganda pakinggan ‘yung term, but the movie itself, if they’d watch it, maganda talaga ang story at maayos ang pagkakagawa ng buong movie. Na-shock lang sila sa word na yun but it’s used naman as katatawanan lang, so watch the whole movie muna before they judge it.”

Does she think real lesbians will watch their movie? “May friends akong ganitong couple. Babaeng-babae sila pareho kung tingnan. Now, they’re both excited to watch ‘69+1’, so feeling ko naman magugustuhan nila ito.”
