
Remulla, Chua unveil historical Gomburza sculpture in Cavite City
JUSTICE Secretary Crispin ‘Boying’ Remulla and Cavite City Mayor Denver Chua led the unveiling of the Gomburza sculpture at Fort San Felipe, Cavite City on Thursday, February 23, 2023.
Chua said Fort San Felipe will soon be open to the public and for tourists who want to visit and learn about the history of the place.
“One of the things that Cavite City government is promoting historical tourism is to further expand the tourism of Cavite City by appreciating the history of our country and Cavite City as well,” Chua added.
The historic event was part of the commemoration of the 151st anniversary of the martyrdom of the ‘Gomburza’ last Feb. 17, 2023.
‘Gomburza’ refers to the three Filipino priests Mariano Gomez, Jose Burgos and Jacinto Zamora who were executed through garrote by Spanish colonial authorities over subversion allegations arising from the ‘Cavite Mutiny’ in 1872.
