NATIONAL Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Deputy Director Medardo de Lemos was designated Officer-in-Charge (OIC) by Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla, a department order dated July 1, 2022, showed.

De Lemos will be replacing Eric Distor, who then-President Rodrigo Roa Duterte appointed in 2020 following the retirement of former NBI Director Dante Gierran.

The order cited Malacañang’s Memorandum Order No. 1, declaring certain vacant positions in departments, offices, agencies, and bureaus in the executive department.

The DOJ Department Order read: “De Lemos shall perform and discharge the duties and responsibilities of the office until 31 July 2022 or until a replacement has been appointed or designated, whichever comes first.”

“This order takes effect immediately and shall remain in force until further orders.”
