PRO11 cites anti-crime, anti-terror gains under Azurin’s M+K+K=K program

PRO11POLICE Regional Office 11 (PRO110 director, Brigadier General Benjamin H. Silo Jr. yesterday cited major anti-criminality and anti-terror gains they have scored in Southern Mindanao amid their full implementation of Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, General Rodolfo S. Azurin Jr.’s M+K+K=K peace and security framework.

Azurin earlier called on his men to be guided by their peace and security framework dubbed “MKK=K” or “Malasakit, Kaayusan, Kapayaaan tungo sa Kaunlaran” and the KASIMBAYANAN program or “Kapulisan, Simbahan at Pamayanan” as they work in unison to realize the government’s aspiration of a much safer, peaceful, more progressive and stronger equitable society.

Silo said from July to September this year, they have conducted 636 anti-illegal drug operations which resulted in the arrest of 717 suspects who yielded nearly P7 million worth of shabu and dried marijuana leaves.

Sixteen armed drug personalities in the region were also killed in clashes with officers out to arrest them during buy-bust operations and service of warrants or arrest or search warrants for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

The official said 878 cases for violation of RA 9165 were filed against the arrested drug offenders.

In the campaign against loose firearms, Silo said they arrested 98 suspects and confiscated 324 illegal firearms. Eighty-four cases for violation of RA 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act of 2013 have been filed against the offenders.

The PRO11 director said during the past three months, his men also arrested 380 Most Wanted Persons and 1,202 Other Wanted Persons in the region following the service of 1,829 warrants of arrest.

A total of 807 cases for illegal gambling were also filed against a total of 1,756 illegal gambling personalities who yielded more than P301,000 in cash bets during the same period.

Silo said they also seized nearly P2.2 million worth of illegally-cut forest products from 19 persons arrested for their involvement in illegal logging activities in the region.

He added that 139 illegal fishermen were also arrested as a result of 145 operations which netted more than P3.3 million worth of illegally-caught fish and illegal fishing paraphernalia.

Silo said that in the campaign against motor vehicle and motorcycle theft, PRO11 operatives arrested 10 suspects and recovered 10 stolen motorbikes and 17 stolen motor vehicles during the period. Twelve cases for violation of the new anti-carnapping act have been filed against the suspects, he said.

The PRO11 director added that in their campaign against Communist Terrorist Groups in the region, a total of 27 New People’s Army (NPA) members surrendered; 47 were arrested and 5 were killed in gunbattles with the police over the past three months.

Also recovered from the leftist gunmen were 19 assorted firearms.

Two Saturdays ago, Davao City policemen shot and killed in a gunbattle a notorious robbery-holdup and ‘Akyat-Bahay’ suspect who also yielded nearly P145,000 worth of shabu and marijuana.

The official identified the slain suspect as Richard Dabal alias ‘Bading,’ the subject of a police anti-criminality effort following his confirmed involvement in theft, ‘salisi,’ ‘Akyat-Bahay’ and snatching activities in Davao City.

Silo said initially recovered from the possession of the suspect were one chamber-loaded Colt MK caliber .45 pistol with a defaced serial number and with a magazine containing four live ammunition and a pink container with eight heat-sealed plastic sachets containing suspected shabu.

While in the hospital, a check of the suspect’s pockets led to the recovery of six plastic sachets containing shabu and a plastic packet containing dried marijuana leaves. The shabu weighed around 21 grams.

The official said 11 top drug targets in the region were also accounted for by his men in a series of anti-narcotics operation last week s which led in the seizure of nearly P3 million worth of shabu and marijuana.

“We have accounted for 11 ‘high-value individuals’ in the region in the wake of our stepped-up war on drugs ordered by our Chief,PNP, Gen. Azurin. All are now facing non-bailable charges for sale and possession of prohibited drugs,” said the official.

The official said one of the suspects identified as Prince Ian Sambalud, tagged as the no. 1 drug trafficker in the region was arrested after he sold marijuana to a poseur in Purok 3, Sitio Habana in Barangay Catigan, Toril District in Davao City.

The suspect yielded 11 marijuana bricks weighing more than 11 kilos and valued at P1.3 million.

Another identified as Jojo Dumaguete alias ‘Bots,’ tagged as the 8th most wanted drug personality in the region was arrested in a sting along Corregidor Street in Bgy. Zone 3, Digos City in Davao del Sur. He yielded some P7,000 worth of shabu and the marked money paid to him by an undercover officer.

The 3rd identified as Joseph Tabalan, an 18-year old student identified as the 6th most wanted drug personality in the region was arrested after he sold three kilograms of dried marijuana leaves to a poseur in Purok 4, V. Mapa Extension in Bgy. 9-A, Davao City. Cannabis bricks worth at least P360,000 were recovered from the suspect’s possession.

Silo said a 4th suspect identified as Sherwin Garcia, tagged as the 8thmost wanted drug personality in the region was arrested in a buy-bust operation in Purok 1, Bgy. Northern Paligue in Padada, Davao del Sur. The suspect yielded an estimated P24,000 worth of shabu.

A 5th top drug target in the region identified as Peter Carriedo, tagged as the 7th most wanted drug personality in the region yielded an estimated P50,000 worht of shabu during a buy-bust operation along the Bypass Road in Punad Village, Bgy. Anglionto in Davao City.

The 6th identified as Jeffrey Ybio alia ‘Memong,’ described as the Top 6 Regional Level High-Value Individual in Southern Mindanao was arrested in a buy-bust operation last Tuesday in Bgy. 19-B. Garcia Heights, Bajada, Davao City.

The 44-year old suspect yielded some 20 grams of shabu valued at nearly P312,000 and the buy-bust money.

The 7th arrested drug offender was identified as Rogelio Tayan Jr. alias ‘Zaido,’ the Top 4 drug target in the region who yielded an estimated P630,000 worth of shabu when arrested.
