PHILIPPINE National Police chief General Rommel Francisco D. Marbil yesterday underscored the significance of the participation of elite commandos from the PNP Special Action Force in the 39th Philippines-United States Balikatan war exercises.

“The PNP SAF’s involvement in the Balikatan Exercises demonstrates our unwavering commitment to enhancing our capabilities and strengthening partnerships for the promotion of peace and security in the region,” Gen. Marbil said.

He also assured that the PNP remains dedicated to upholding peace and security, both domestically and internationally.

“Through participation in exercises such as Balikatan, the PNP reaffirms its commitment to professionalism, excellence, and service to the nation,” he said.

The PNP chief commended PNP-SAF director Major Gen. Bernard M. Banac for ensuring the full readiness of his men to participate in the 39th Balikatan Exercises, the largest annual bilateral training event between the Philippines and the U.S. which started on Tuesday and will end on Mahy 10.

“This annual event provides the SAF valuable hands-on experience in various operational domains, including sea, air, land, command control, and cybersecurity,” Gen. Marbil said in commending the 156 SAF troopers who will join the exercises to actively contribute to regional security and strengthen international partnerships.

According to Maj. Gen. Banac, the 156 SAF troopers have fully prepared for the most prominent annual military exercise between the Philippines and the U.S. which have been the cornerstone of the two country’s continuing strong relations since the closure of the American bases in Clark and Subic in 1992.

Being the PNP’s main tactical unit, Maj. Gen. Banac stressed that the ability to rapidly deploy forces into hostile environments is strategically imperative.

“As tensions escalate and uncertainties emerge, the SAF remains steadfast in its mission to protect and serve the Filipino people with valor and distinction,” he said.
