AGENTS of the Philippine National Police Anti-Kidnapping Group (PNP-AKG) Wednesday morning rescued 43 Chinese nationals allegedly held captive by operators of a POGO company in Angeles City, Pampanga, PNP chief, General Rodolfo S. Azurin Jr. said.

The top cop said members of the PNP-AKG headed by Colonel Rodolfo D. Castil Jr. conducted the rescue operation.

The operation was conducted after the PNP-AKG rescued one of the Chinese nationals in Angeles City and conducted a follow-up operation which led to the rescue of the 42 others who were similarly enslaved under human trafficking conditions inside the POGO site located at Lucky South 99, Fil-Am Friendship Highway in Angeles City.

The rescue operation stemmed from information provided by foreign counterparts of the PNP-AKG based on complaints of the family of the kidnapped Chinese who was held for a P1 million ransom since late evening of Monday, September 12.

Azurin said that arrested during the operation was Chen Yi Bien alias Ayi, the 33-year old Human Resource Manager of Lucky South 99.

The rescued victim is now undergoing a debriefing by the PNP-AKG to dig deeper into the circumstances surrounding the kidnapping, said Azurin.

He added that they are also building a strong case against all persons involved in the crime.

The 42 rescued POGO workers are undergoing documentation and records verification.

Azurin earlier ordered all concerned police units to launch a crackdown on unauthorized security personnel employed in POGO establishments.

An inspection and audit is now underway to account for all private security personnel such as watchmen, blue guards and Protective Agents, especially those carrying firearms while performing security duties, the top cop added.

“This is to preclude possible involvement of private security providers in illegal activities at POGO and other gaming establishment,” said Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Benjamin’Benhur’ C. Abalos Jr.

“Ito ang tugon ng PNP sa ilalim ng inyong DILG at sa layunin ng pamahalaan sa ilalim ng pamumuno ni President Ferdinand R Marcos Jr. na itaguyod ang maganda at masaganang buhay para sa lahat ng Filipino,” the DILG chief said.
