People’s clamor

AS a developing Southeast Asian nation, the Philippines needs the help of the two-chamber Congress to hasten its socio-economic development.

That’s the reason why every year, the President submits his/her legislative agenda to our legislators – senators and congressmen – for their consideration.

In his second State-of-the-Nation Address (SONA) before the joint session of Congress last Monday, President Marcos asked the legislature to okay his priority bills.

And in the view of well-meaning people, including the ordinary citizens, the lawmakers have no choice but to approve the administration’s proposed measures.

But members of the Senate and the House of Representatives, pro-administration and critics, are seen to introduce amendments to the administration bills.

Without doubt, democracy flourishes when even members of the political opposition are listened to and not ignored during spirited deliberations on vital issues.

People believe that supporting President Marcos’ priority bills is a move in the right direction.

And we agree with even the ordinary citizens across the country that critics of the administration ought to bend to the will of the Filipino people.

“Lalo na kung ang pinag-uusapan ay ang kapakanan ng taumbayan hindi lang sa Metropoilitan Manila kundi sa buong Pilipinas,” according to an elderly farmer.

Sa dami ng ating mga problema, ang kailangan nating lahat ay pagtutulungan at hindi siraan.
