Prices

Overpricing of goods

WHEN the government of President Ferdinand “Bongbong ” R. Marcos Jr. assumes office on June 30, the authorities ought to look closely at the supply chain of basic commodities.

And they should determine where the government, through concerned offices and agencies, can introduce bold measures aimed at bringing down the prices of goods and services.

Likewise, the authorities should explore other sources of raw materials and finished products from other countries where these goods may be cheaper or less expensive.

Some quarters, including the ordinary citizens across the country, said the government may also impose price limits, either in the form of price ceiling or price control.

“Ang mahalaga ay mapababa natin ang presyo ng mga bilihin, lalo na ang pagkain, gamot at iba pang basic necessities,” said a displaced worker in the private sector.

People are made to believe that the incoming government of President Marcos is not willing to allow the unwarranted increase in the prices of goods and services.

In our view, raising the costs of essential goods beyond the reach of the poorest of the poor and other unfortunate members of Philippine society is cruel and inhuman.

Profiteers, hoarders and other unscrupulous traders have no place in the Philippines, which is now teeming with poor people as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

If we have the heart for the welfare of the millions of poor consumers, then let’s support the government in its nationwide campaign to hit hard at erring merchants.

Kailangang mahuli, makasuhan at maparusahan ang mga mapagsamantalang negosyante hindi lang sa Metropolitan Manila kundi sa buong bansa.
