A traffic enforcer of the Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau (MTPB) cheated death after being shot repeatedly by a motorist whom he pursued for hit-and-run in Tondo, Manila Friday.

Now under observation at the Tondo General Hospital is Mark Macmalen, 45, while the suspect, who remains unidentified, is still being hunted down by the Manila Police District (MPD) on orders of its director, Gen. Leo Francisco.

A report received by MTPB Dennis Viaje from the victim’s fellow enforcers who witnessed the incident said the incident took place at around 11:30 a.m. on Juan Luna Street in Tondo

Macmalen was said to be manning traffic when the suspect, aboard a brown, plateless Mitsubishi Lancer, hit a biker and then sped off, as the biker fell to the ground. While escaping, the suspect hit along the way an e-trike and a motorcycle, among others.

Macmalen then pursued the fleeing suspect and then used his motorcycle to block the latter’s path, as the vehicle reached Mel Lopez Boulevard (formerly Road 10).

Viaje said the suspect got off his vehicle, shot the victim four times and at close range, abandoned his car, rode the victim’s motorcycle as a getaway vehicle and then sped off.

According to Viaje, the victim had been with the MTPB since Mayor Isko Moreno assumed office and had no bad record whatsoever.
