MAKING public schools at par with private schools and generating jobs.

These, according to Mayor Isko Moreno, are his and Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna’s goals for the next six months which will benefit the jobless Manilans and the less-privileged students too.

Moreno said the local government of Manila will come up with ways to fight the economic repercussions of the pandemic by engaging in infrastructure, housing and school projects.

He noted that based on latest reports, the number of those who lost their jobs owing to the pandemic has reached about 12 million.

With the projects lined up in the coming months, Moreno said the city hopes to generate about 5,000 jobs easily while addressing the problem on informal settlers, on top of what is already being done in the city.

Under what he said is his new commitment to the residents of Manila, Moreno said that he is preparing a new face for certain public schools.

“We will show to the country and to the world that this is how a public school looks like… bagong itsura. Ako, produkto ng public school. I know how it feels bilang estudyante ng public education kaya babaguhin natin ang impresyon in terms of facilities and buildings,” Moreno said.

“Na-stimulate na ang economy, na-address pa ang perennial problem on lack of classrooms,” the mayor added, as he announced plans to have public schools that come complete with theatre, canteen, audio-visual laboratory, library, a soccer field if possible.

Moreno said he also dreams of making public school students enjoy what those from the private schools do, by making the public schools at par with the private educational institutions.

“Lahat ng meron sa private, ipatitikim natin sa mahihirap na nag-aaral sa public para pantay ang level. Naniniwala akong magagaling ang teachers sa public education system,” he added.
