MANILA Department of Public Service (DPS) Officer-in-Charge Ms. Kyle Nicole Amurao encouraged the public to segregate their garbage and waste products before sending it out to roving garbage collectors.

Amurao said there was an existing City Ordinance No. 8371 that provides environmental code for the city of Manila.

“Garbage not segregated in placing approved containers by the local government shall not be collected and shall be considered a violation of the provision of this ordinance and violators shall be penalized accordingly,” Amurao said.

Under the ordinance, violators will be punished with a fine of P600.00 for first offense, P1,500 for second offense and P2,000 for third offense or imprisonment of not less than one day but not more than 15 days or both upon the discretion of the court.

The DPS OIC said biodegradable waste materials will be collected every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday while non-biodegradable waste materials will be collected every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
