Makati stuns Zamboanga in MPBL
MAKATI caught Zamboanga Family’s Brand Sardines flat-footed in the fourth quarter and posted a 95-75 stunner on Thursday in the OKBet-MPBL (Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League) Fifth Season at the Cuenta Astrodome.
With Emman Calo and Billy Robles outscoring the entire Zamboanga squad, 18-14, in that span, the Makati OKBet Kings shattered a 61-61 tie to register their fourth win against two losses in the elimination round of the 29-team tournament.
Although it was Mathhew Daves and JC Cullar who led Makati’s scoring with 20 and 19, respectively, Calo and Robles delivered the killer blows with 10 and 8, in that quarter.
Robles wound up with 16 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists, while Calo added 16 to complement the effort of Daves, who also snared 6 rebounds, and Cullar, who also issued 9 assists and 5 rebounds.
Zamboanga, which tasted only its second loss in seven games, got 20 points and 9 rebounds from Jaycee Marcelino and 11 points and 6 rebounds from Chris Dumapig, but their teammates hardly provided supprot.
Earlier, Pasay City MCW Sports subdued Bacolod City of Smiles, 61-56 and raised its record to 5-3.
Ryan Paule Costelo posted 12 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists, while Kenny Roger Rocacurva notched 10 points and 6 assists for Pasig, which pulled down Bacolod to 3-5.
Other major contributors for Pasig Coach Boyet Fernandez were Robbie Manalang with 9 points and 4 rebounds, Michael Maestre with 8 points and 7 rebounds and Jason Ballesteros with 4 points and 10 rebounds.
Bacolod got 13 points frm Val Chauca and 10 points and 4 rebounds from James Mangahas.
