Lady trader killed, pal critical in Ecija gun attack

SAN ISIDRO, Nueva Ecija — A 54-year-old businesswoman was killed while her companion remained in critical condition after two unidentified riding-in-tandem suspects peppered them with bullets in an attack staged in broad daylight here on Monday afternoon.

Killed was local trader Wilfreda Dela Cruz, of Bgy. San Carlos, while her wounded companion was identified as Jimmy Mesina, 52, farmer, of Bgy. San Antonio, both of Cabiao, Nueva Ecija.

Police said the shooting occurred in Purok 7, Bgy. San Roque at 12:50 p.m.

The two victims were riding a black Honda Click motorcycle when the two suspects aboard a black Honda TMX motorcycle overtook their vehicle and its backrider fired at them using a cal. 45 pistol.

Police said the two victims sustained gunshot wounds in the head and different parts of the body.

Responding lawmen rushed Mesina to the nearby Good Samaritan Hospital in Gapan City for emergency treatment while Dela Cruz died on the spot.
