THE Supreme Court has disbarred Atty. Lorenzo “Larry” Gadon for his derogatory remarks about journalist Raissa Robles on social media.

The high court took cognizance of the incident and previously imposed a preventive suspension on the controversial lawyer while deliberating on his disbarment.

In a statement, the SC, voting 15-0, deemed Gadon’s video clip “undeniably scandalous, discrediting the legal profession.”

The court highlighted Gadon’s violation of Canon II on Propriety of the Code of Professional Responsibility and Accountability, emphasizing the expectation that lawyers should always conduct themselves with propriety, honesty, respect, and courtesy, while upholding the dignity of the legal profession and adhering to the highest standards of ethical behavior in both personal and professional dealings.

Expressing disappointment, the SC emphasized that Gadon had failed to meet the expected standards of conduct for a lawyer, whether in public or private life, and stressed the importance of avoiding scandalous behavior.

This is not the first time Gadon has faced disciplinary action.

Previously, he was convicted by the SC and suspended from practicing law for three months due to his use of offensive and intemperate language. He was warned that repeating such offenses would result in more severe sanctions.

The SC acknowledged the existence of six other administrative cases pending before the Office of the Bar Confidant and four cases before the Commission on Bar Discipline of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines against Gadon.

The court stated that the volume of administrative complaints filed against him spoke volumes about his character.

The unanimous ruling concluded with a reminder to all lawyers: “The privilege to practice law is bestowed only upon individuals who are intellectually and academically competent and, equally important, morally upright. There is no place in this noble profession for misogyny and sexism. The court will never tolerate any form of abuse, especially when perpetrated by an officer of the court.”

Gadon had released a video clip containing “hateful, misogynistic rants” against Robles, which quickly spread on social media.

He was infuriated by Robles’ tweet regarding the tax conviction of former senator and current President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

Previously, the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) compared Gadon’s behavior to that of a 14-year-old child.

In a statement, the NUJP emphasized that while Gadon had the freedom to disagree with journalists, it did not grant him the license to resort to immature and offensive language. immature and offensive language.
