Gatchalian inks deal to boost PH’s social workforce
DEPARTMENT of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Sec. Rex Gatchalian, together with the heads and representatives of the ASEAN Social Work Consortium-Philippines (ASWC-PH) member associations and University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) Chancellor Melinda DP. Bandalaria signed the memorandum of understanding on Monday, which was aimed at strengthening the social workforce in the country through the DSWD Academy.
Under the agreement, the member organizations of ASWC-PH and the UPOU will serve as learning service providers for the DSWD Academy and partners of the social welfare department in providing technical assistance to social welfare and development intermediaries and other stakeholders.
The DSWD Academy is among the priority projects of Gatchalian, which envisions establishing a learning facility to provide specialized training, capacity-building activities, and other learning development interventions to social workers to enable them to meet the ever-changing trends in social work practice.
‘DSWD turns over PRC donations to Albay province’
In a related development, DSWD Bicol Regional Director Norman Laurio turned over on Monday the donations of the People’s Republic of China for Mayon evacuees to Albay Governor Grex Lagman.
The PRC donations arrived on Monday at the Provincial Capitol with eight trucks delivering the relief goods.
Lagman thanked President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., DSWD Sec. Gatchalian, Undersecretary Diana Rose Cajipe, and Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian for the donations that will benefit his constituents as they bear the brunt of the Mayon volcanic activities.
