Fight illegal sellers of CTPL

TOP officials of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) headed by its chief, Asst. Secretary Vigor Mendoza II, has allied with various transport groups to prevent illegal sellers of motor vehicle insurance.

Mendoza also vowed to immediately act on the concerns raised by insurance companies about the unauthorized sellers of the Compulsory Third Party Liability (CTPL).

The consultation meeting was aimed at getting the points of view and recommendations of as many stakeholders to further improve the government’s land transportation services which are among the priorities of Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon.

Attendees stressed the necessity of increasing the benefits under the insurance as well as the need to ensure payment of claims is faster and more comfortable compared to the current system.

The two other changes that are now being ironed out are the immediate correction of encoding errors on insurance and the removal of participation fees in claiming the payment.

“Maganda ang kinalabasan ng pagpupulong at ito naman ang gusto natin, especially our new DOTr Secretary Dizon—to reach out to the people so that we could craft and implement measures that are convenient to all our clients,” the LTO chief stressed.

The LTO would also be finalizing the legality issues in coordination with the Insurance Commission before it will be presented and implement all these changes.

He also assured the insurance companies to personally oversee the conduct of operations against those selling CTPL without the authorization of the Insurance Commission by deploying mystery customers to identify and subject those illegally selling CTPL to LTO and police operations.

“With your help and continuous coordination, I am sure that we will have a long way to go to implement the necessary reforms to improve the land transportation experience of our kababayan,” Mendoza told transport groups leaders and representatives of various groups during the public consultation.

Among those who attended were Malyn Ramos, president of the MAJETSCO/Busina; Angel Guevarra, representative of Sterling Insurance Company; Shierto Santillan, of the BMIS; Juliet De Jesus of the Mega Manila Consortium; Leonardo Bautista, chairman of the PAGUNOVA Transport; Ariel Lim, of the National Public Transport and NACTODA.

Others were Boy Vargas, head of ALTODAP; Jes Bañaga, president of the Pro-movers Transport Alliance; Jojo Martin, head of the Pasang Masda; Saturnino De Guzman, of the Partner 7 Transport Operators; Vicky Antonio, chairperson of the Novadeci Transport Cooperative; Elbert Mozoe, BMIS president;l and, Ka Obet Martin, chairman of Pasang Masda.
