New music releases

VIVA Records adprom head Punch Liwanag announces the release of new singles of various artists.

Young music act ATASKA is all grown up. The former The Voice Kids singer is now a young and vivacious lady. And just in time too as she returns with new music and sound that fit her in the mid-tempo ballad “Marupok.” This alt-pop leaning song is about those who exude an air of being lovable (nagpapa-kilig or “pa-fall” in local parlance) and those that easily fall for his/her charms. In this case, ATASKA was at the receiving end of it, and couldn’t help but fall for her crush, hence, “Marupok.”

Kushin of hit rap collective HOOD 047 flies solo on his new music titled “PLANO.” He’s literally a man with a plan as he enumerates a virtual to-do list of people to stay clear of as he executes his grand strategy. And that’s how to raise his game in everything he does, including this thumpin’ mid tempo rap that’s equally dark and moody. And flowing with him are Rowmee G of Soulstice and Lanzeta.

“T.G” by Mark Atienza is a personal experience of the singer put into song. “This is me telling my story on how I caught my ex cheating on me on the spot.” And sure enough, there’s angst that Mark Atienza is exorcising on this upbeat, 90’s-throwback, pop-rock sounding number. Mark Atienza wrote and produced said track in his NYC Home Studio.

Fan-fave singer songwriter Kyle Raphael gives a new reason why he’s one of the most important music artists to come from the South in his latest single titled “Kung Wala Na Ako.” This beautifully written and exquisitely sung and arranged song is equal parts pop and love song. The waltz-like time also contributes to the song’s lilting quality. But most importantly, it proves what kind of music artist Kyle Raphael puts out: the type that’s always on the brink of being a hit.

Adda Cstr makes a statement on this rap-pop fusion track titled “Sinungaling.” Adda throws in a mish-mash of emotions and angst in this moody-themed rap song. But those listening won’t catch it right away with the bouncy rhythms that open and drive this track. A crafty piece of bop from Adda Cstr indeed.

The May-December-love-affair-with-a-twist themed movie “May-December-January” boasts of a soundtrack that features one of the greatest hits in modern Pinoy pop in “Pagdating Ng Panahon” as recorded by Aiza Seguerra. This ballad sets the mood for the movie, ditto the modern pop of singer-songwriter mold in “Maligayang Pagkunwari.” The greatest of the past side-to-side with the most promising of new side-by-side to complement this McArthur C. Alejandre-directed Viva Films movie that stars Andrea Del Rosario, Kych Minemoto and Gold Aceron. Written by National Artist for Film and Broadcast, Ricky Lee.

OC Records pop and rock music act Chrstn (Christine Kate Taguibao) is the pretty voiced singer behind the equally beautiful sounding new single titled “Paano Ba? (Umibig).” According to the singer, the song is about “wondering if your heart will learn to continue to love after getting hurt.” She adds that its like “forgetting how to love because the person who made you feel it the most has taken all the love you could ever give.” Stings for sure, but if Chrstn can always sound this good singing about heartache, then there’s the silver lining.

Singer-songwriter Chelsea Ronquillo lays down a melodic and lovely new tune titled “Para Sa’Kin.” Chelsea mentions that she was inspired by fellow OC Records artist ADIE’s “Paraluman.” Said song turned on something in Chelsea and the writer in Chelsea immediately put pen to paper and wrote her own lovely acoustic pop-flavored song about leaving things unsaid between people who care about another.
