Las Piñas General Hospital gets 500 bed capacity upgrade- Camille Villar
ACCESSIBLE and quality health services are essential for Filipino families, Camille Villar said during the inauguration of the new building of the Las Piñas General Hospital and Satellite Trauma Center (LPGHSTC).
“Mahalaga ang pagkakaroon ng maayos at fully-equipped na mga ospital at medical facilities na accessible para sa ating mga kababayan na may sakit,” Villar said.
Villar also said government health services must be in place to ensure the health and well-being of Filipinos.
“Responsibilidad ng pamahalaan ang pagpapatupad ng kalidad na mga health programs na tumutugon at magsisiguro ng kalusugan ng bawat pamilyang Pilipino,” she said.
The additional 12-storey, state-of-the-art, and fully-equipped hospital building has a 500 bed capacity. It’s construction was mandated under Republic Act No. 11497, which Villar authored and championed in the House of Representatives.
Aside from increasing the hospital’s bed capacity, RA 11497 also upgraded its professional health care services and increased its workforce, including doctors, nurses and support staff.
The expansion of the health facility is expected to cater to patients in southern Metro Manila, and nearby cities and municipalities of Cavite.
Dr. Ignacia Guia Fajardo, LPGHSTC medical director, thanked Villar and her mother and brother – Senators Cynthia and Mark Villar – for their “unwavering commitment and leadership” to secure the needed funding for the improvement of the hospital.
The provision of quality health services is a priority program of Villar, who is running for senator.
Villar vows to be a “new voice” in the Senate and push for innovative and forward-looking measures to address challenges in the health, education, housing, women and business sectors.
Women instrumental in improving PH economy
Meanwhile, Villar, reiterated her support for women during her recent activities marking Women’s Month in Balanga, Bataan.
As the youngest candidate for senator in the May 2025 polls, Villar vowed to continue supporting measures that will uplift the rights and create opportunities for women in the society.
Believing in the dictum that, “women lift up economies”, Villar cited the important role of women in the country’s development and progress.
As the country marks Women’s Month, she also paid tribute to her grandmother, Nanay Curing, mother of former Senate President Manny Villar, who hails from Orani.
As a daughter, mother and a legislator, Villar said she understands the multiple roles that every woman play in the household and the workplace.
“Happy Women’s Month po sa lahat ng ating mga nagsisipagan at naggagandahang kababaihan ngayon dito — lahat ng nanay, lola, auntie, anak, maybahay na walangsawang nagtataguyod ng kani-kanilang pamilya. Ang araw na ito ay isangpagkakataon upang kilalanin ang mganagawa, lakas, at kontribusyon ng mgakababaihan sa buong mundo,” she said.
She reiterated her commitment to priotitize the welfare of women when it comes to implementation of projects and legislation.
“Sa akin pong trabaho sa Kongreso ay sinikap kong makapagpasa ng mga batas na susuporta at poprotekta sa kapakananng ating mga kababaihan,” Villar added.
During her tenure as Las Piñas representative, Villar pushed for the passage of Pregnant Women Welfare Act at Equal Maternity Protection Act.
The measure aims to provide benefits for pregnant women who are part of the informal economy.
Villar also pushed for passage of a measure that would provide free medical at hospitalization benefits for indigent women.
Maternal and reproductive health are part of Villar’s advocacies. She also provided maternity kits to women in low-income household.
In Las Piñas, she also spearheaded activities such as “Nanay Fair”, which provided livelihood trainings, financial coaching and seminars for mothers in the city’s barangays.
“Prinayoridad ko po ang pagsulong ng mga programang nagtataguyod ng kapakanan ng mga kababaihan, dahil naniniwala ako na kapag empowered po ang kababaihan, maayos po ang pamilya at nagtatagumpaypo ang pamilya,” she added.
