Ecija bags “Best Gulayan sa Barangay” plum in CL
TALAVERA, Nueva Ecija — This first class municipality tagged as Nueva Ecija’s “vegetable basket” bagged the regional championship award of the Department of Agriculture-sponsored “Gulayan sa Barangay” project in Central Luzon.
Agriculture Usec. Evelyn Lavina and Central Luzon regional executive director Crispulo Bautista Jr. bestowed the “Best Gulayan sa Barangay” plum to Barangay Dimasalang Norte, of this town during awarding ceremonies held in Lubao, Pampanga on Nov. 18.
Mayor Nerivi Santos-Martinez and Virgilio Tayao, barangay captain of Dimasalang Norte, received the award.
Barangay Dimasalang Norte bested 130 other barangays in the region to claim the top spot in the competition, which was held to honor the best community garden implementors, in the provincial and regional levels of the “Best Gulayan sa Barangay” project of the DA under its High-Value Crop Development Program.
Santos-Martinez thanked the DA for recognizing the town’s efforts in promoting the Duterte administration’s goals to achieve vegetable and food sufficiency in the country.
The mayor also urged her constituents to continue implementing her more than eight-year program of planting vegetables in the barangay, their backyards and the school.
The DA said that Nueva Ecija and the province of Aurora, which won second place, will represent Central Luzon in the next national level “Best Gulayan” contest for the entire country.
