PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) chief, General Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar on Friday alerted the Police Regional Office 8 (PRO8) in Eastern Visayas to be alert for possible adverse effects of Tropical Depression “Maring” on local residents.

He also tasked nearby police regional offices to be on standby in case their assistance is needed due to the effects of ‘Maring’ in the provinces as there might be a need to evacuate affected residents.

“I have placed our personnel in the Police Regional Office 8 and nearby areas on standby as their assistance may be required by our local government units in the region, particularly in the evacuation of residents in flood-prone or landslide-prone areas,” Gen. Eleazar said.

“Our police personnel in the region should be prepared for deployment anytime and ready to respond to any emergency,” he added.

The PNP chief also directed the PRO8 headed by Brigadier Gen. Rommel Cabagnot to also monitor the forecasts being released by weather agency PAGASA so they could prepare for the track of the weather disturbance and conduct preemptive evacuations, if necessary.

“Kailangang naka-monitor din ang ating kapulisan sa PRO-8 sa pagtaya ng panahon ng PAGASA para alam nila ang tamang aksyon na dapat gawin at ang assistance na kailangan ng ating mga kababayan,” he said.

As of Friday morning, PAGASA said Maring remained erratic over the Philippine Sea.

There is no Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal currently in effect over provinces, PAGASA added.

However, it forecasted that Eastern Visayas would experience light to moderate with at times heavy rains due to the trough of the tropical depression.

Meanwhile, light to moderate with at times heavy rains may begin affecting Occidental Mindoro, Palawan, and the rest of Visayas on Saturday due to the southwesterlies that are being enhanced by the tropical depression.
