Driver nabbed for illegal weapons, ammo in Cavite

AGENTS of the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) on Wednesday arrested a 49-year old shuttle driver in General Trias City, Cavite for illegal possession of high-powered weapons and ammunition, officials announced yesterday.

A report to PNP-CIDG director, Major General Eliseo DC Cruz said that suspect Joel Magpuri was arrested inside his house on 0340 Block 12, New Javalera Subdivision in Barangay Javalera, General Trias City which was raided by Cavite CIDG Provincial Field Unit operatives led by Lieutenant Colonel Bryan Dexter Andulan around 12:45 p.m. Wednesday.

The CIDG Cavite officers were assisted by members of the Cavite Provincial Mobile Force Company and the 82nd Special Action Company of the PNP Special Action Force in serving the search warrant for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Act of 2013 issued against the accused by Judge Ralph Arellano of the Naic, Cavite Regional Trial Court Branch 132.

CIDG Region 4-A chief, Colonel Marlon Santos said Magpuri was arrested after the searching team recovered an M-16 automatic rifle with serial number 227391; a cal. .45 semi-automatic pistol with serial no. 1598383, three M-16 magazines with 75 live ammunition, two cal. .45 magazines with 17 bullets and a 9mm magazine inside the suspect’s place.

The raid was conducted in the wake of the intensified effort of the CIDG to account for loose weapons that could be used in criminal activities in Calabarzon region, said Santos.
