AN active member of the Police Regional Office Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao was locked up in jail by agents of the Philippine National Police Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group on Thursday for his alleged involvement in car theft cases, PNP-IMEG Officer-in-Charge, Brigadier General Samuel C. Nacion announced yesterday.

Patrolman Jassim Muhammad Plaza Aking of the PRO-BARMM Regional Mobile Force Battalion was arrested in Purok Pinnen, Rosales Street in Rosary Heights VI, Cotabato City by PNP-IMEG operatives on the strength of a warrant of arrest for violation of Republic Act 10883 otherwise known as the New Anti-Carnapping Act of 2016, the official said.

“We are fully committed to continue leading the PNP’s Internal Cleansing Programs to cleanse our ranks by identifying rogue PNP members whether they are active, retired or dismissed from the service and launching operations to account for them specifically those who are already the subject of warrants of arrest for different criminal cases,” Nacion said.

In a report to PNP-OIC, Lieutenant General Vicente D. Danao Jr., Nacion said members of the IMEG Mindanao Field Unit led by Lieutenant Pauline April Jimenez arrested the accused on the strength of two warrants of arrest for violation of RA 10883 issued by a local court last June 9.

A P300,000 bail was recommended by the court for each of the case.

Nacion said the IMEG MFU under Colonel Mario Cortes were assisted by operatives from the local Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, the Special Action Force, Highway Patrol Group, the Cotabato City Police Office and the Cotabato City Peace and Security Team in arresting the suspect.

Nacion said Aking is the subject of a complaint filed by a 65-year old resident of Cotabato City and a local government employee from North Cotabato.

The 1st complainant accused the cop of stealing his Honda XRM motorcycle with plate no. 2187 JS worth P35,000 while the 2nd filed a complaint against the same suspect whom he claimed had stolen his brown Mitsubish Strada pick-up with plate no. LGN-882. The pick-up is worth P750,000.

“Pat Aking is sought for not one but two anti-carnapping cases. This indicates that while serving in the police force, he wronged two civilians and may have victimized more if he hadn’t been apprehended,” Brig. Gen. Nacion said.

Nacion said the suspect was arrested following a tip from his neighbor.

“We are intensifying aggressively our campaign against wanted persons within our ranks. As our OIC, Danao has emphasized, we will not tolerate any misconduct and breach of discipline in the PNP. As the lead unit of the internal cleansing plan, we will ensure that PNP personnel with criminal cases will be brought to the courts of law and be prosecuted to the fullest because criminals have no place in the police service,” Nacion added.

Aking is being held at the CIDG office in Cotabato City pending his presentation to the court.
