Danao warns men vs illegal use of sirens, blinkers, recovered vehicles

NATIONAL Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) director, Major General Vicente D. Danao Jr. on Thursday warned anew his men to fully observe the ban on the unauthorized use of sirens and blinkers and most importantly, recovered motor vehicles and motorcycles or get the ax once they are arrested for violating the direct order.

The NCRPO chief also reiterated the call of Philippine National Police chief, General Dionardo B. Carlos to police officers nationwide to refrain from the unnecessary use of sirens and blinkers attached to their marked vehicles to ensure that these gadgets will remain “a symbol of authority, not abuse.”

At the same time, he warned that any Metro Manila policemen who will be found to be deliberately utilizing recovered motor vehicles and motorcycles for personal use in violation of existing laws and standard operating procedures that they will be arrested, jailed and subjected to summary dismissal proceedings.

“Our Chief PNP is firm in his warning to fire any police officer who will be found using recovered motor vehicles and motorcycles. This call shall be implemented strictly in this region and I will personally make sure that police officers found guilty of violating this order shall be dealt with accordingly,” said Maj. Gen. Danao.

Gen. Carlos earlier ordered the PNP Highway Patrol Group headed by Brigadier Gen. Rommel Francisco D. Marbil to go after motorist including law enforcement officers known for their unauthorized use of sirens, blinkers and other gadgets in their personal vehicles which is prohibited by law.

The PNP chief said that private motorists found using these banned gadgets shall be required to dismantle the same and surrender them to PNP-HPG before citation tickets are issued . “This is part of our effort to instill discipline among our men to ensure that we keep a strong sense of moral fiber in our ranks. This is the very foundation of public service and one of the most definite way to regain the trust and confidence of the citizenry to their police,” said Danao as he fully reiterated the PNP chief’s instructions.
